My portfolio is an investigation on how our surroundings are altered through reflection. I explored reflection through water, windows, and mirrors. I focused my inquiry on the effect that reflection has on our perception of the world as well as our perception of ourselves. I began by focusing on the impact of light in reflection, and many of these works emphasized reflection on water, especially how the waves reflect and alter sunlight. I then focused on how reflection in a mirror impacts the perception of one’s identity. Finally, I experimented with the impact of glass in distorting our perception of the world around us. Through painting windows, I studied how reflection or wavy glass changes our perception of the view. Throughout my investigation, I worked mostly with oil paints, allowing my art to grow and evolve in an impressionist and post-impressionist style. I became more aware of how reflection alters my perception of my surroundings and of myself.
